Blaise Bron

Blaise Bron (born December 7, 1918 in Basel ; † September 11, 2004 in Lucerne ) was a Swiss graphic artist , designer, exhibition designer, book designer and photographer. Blaise Bron was best known for his posters, although he only designed nine posters, five of which were awarded.

Life

Blaise Bron did an apprenticeship as a typesetter at Frobenius AG in Basel from 1933 to 1938 and continued his education at the general trade school in Basel. a. in the graphics class. From 1943 to 1945 he worked for the Keller & Co. printing company in Lucerne. In 1948 he became self-employed and opened his own graphic studio in Lucerne.

Blaise Bron received his first recognition as an artist in 1951, when his first Mobiloil poster (black and white) was selected by the Department of the Interior for the award of the best Swiss posters . The following year, the second award for his colored Mobiloil poster took place. Another success was his participation in the competitions for the poster of the Swiss sample fair, Basel , which he won in 1965, 1968 and 1974. In 1970 Blaise Bron won the Swiss Post competition for postage stamps and won 2nd prize in the audience rating.

On May 12, 2008, a colored Mobiloil poster from 1952 was auctioned for US $ 28,800 (over CHF 30,000 at the time). The auctioneer, Swann Galleries, New York, noted in the catalog for the auction that Blaise Bron's work “Mobiloil 1952” had anticipated elements of Pop Art (cf. with Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol ) ten years ago: “This poster is a proto-Pop masterpiece that stands as an exeptional vanguard to the Pop movement of the 1960s. "
