The Austrian brass band Makos mainly plays Bohemian-Moravian brass music . Since it was founded, Makos has been one of the most prominent representatives and promoters of Bohemian-Moravian brass music in Austria.

history

In 1981, Hans Makos put together a wind orchestra consisting of around 25 musicians from the Burgenland Military Music and the Vienna Guard Music . Makos was influenced by the Moravanka and Mistrinanka brass bands . The collaboration between Hans Makos and Willy Fantel, the head of entertainment at the ORF Landesstudio Burgenland , resulted in the first radio production. Willy Fantel recognized the quality of this music ensemble and invited further recordings. In the course of these productions the ensemble was given the name Johann Makos brass band. Due to the special sound of this music formation, there was strong demand for the ensemble. The Makos marching band was broadcast so often in Burgenland and partly across Austria that there were sometimes protests against it. Due to the subsequent European-wide popularity, this ensemble was engaged as a musical highlight at brass music festivals. In 2006 the band celebrated its 25th anniversary in Aspang-Markt . Since 1992, it has organized a popular music festival, the Bohemian Kirtag in Aspang, about every two years.

At the end of 2011 the Makos marching band broke up.
