The Blaue See (formerly also known as Herta-See) is a former clay pit (a brick pond ) in the municipality of Lünne in the Emsland district . It is located southwest of the village of Lünne in a rural setting. In the north and east there are agricultural areas , in the west there is another lake .
The lake was created from 1936 by extracting clay for former brickworks and for excavating the Dortmund-Ems Canal . Today it serves as a swimming and fishing lake and for local recreation . The shore properties are predominantly built with weekend houses. On the north shore of the lake there is a swimming area with a 50 m long sandy beach and a lawn. There is a restaurant at the edge of the lawn. There is a campsite northeast of the lake .
The Lünner See is located directly south of the Blauer See .
