The Blue Lake is a quarry pond in the district of Ahlten von Lehrte , Hanover region , Lower Saxony . It is located between Lehrte and Ahlten immediately south of the A 2 motorway .
The lake was created from 1934 to 1936 as part of the Hanover – Berlin motorway construction. After 1960 more sand and gravel was needed for the construction of the Hanover – Kassel motorway, and the lake was dredged and expanded for this purpose. The lake is located in the conservation area Ahltener forest.
The lake is used by the sports fishing club in Hanover and the surrounding area as fishing waters; it is largely owned by him. Caught eel , pike , whitefish and perch . In summer, the lake is used by many people looking for local recreation for swimming despite a bathing ban in the landscape protection area ordinance.
In the Hanover region there are at least two other lakes with this name, the Blauen See (Misburg) a little further west and the Blauen See (Garbsen) about 20 km west in the north-west of Hanover. All three lakes are on the A2 motorway.
Immediately next to the Blue Lake near Ahlten there is another privately owned lake, about 1.5 hectares in size. After the owner, this lake is commonly referred to as the "Müllersee".
