The Blue Lake is a quarry pond near Garbsen in the Hanover region , Lower Saxony . It was created by extracting sand as a building material for the construction of the A2 motorway .

The lake is located west of Garbsen between the Bundesautobahn 2 and the Leine within the 410 hectare nature reserve “Mittlere Leine”, it is fed by groundwater.

In the north of the lake there is a 600 meter long sandy beach that slopes gently towards the lake. There is a shallow water zone in front of the beach. On the beach there is a 65-meter-long water slide and a playground, as well as a barbecue area on the east bank. A bathing island is anchored in the lake. The lido is managed. Gastronomy and sanitary facilities are available.

There is a water ski facility in the lake . There is a campsite to the west of the lake . In the east the lake borders on the forest area "Garbser Berge".

The lake is owned by the fishing club Luthe e. V. used as fishing waters. Eel , perch, bream , pike , carp , roach and tench have been reported from the lake.

Others

In the Hanover region there are at least two other lakes with this name, the Blue Lake in Lehrte about 20 km further east and the Blue Lake in Misburg in the northeast of Hanover. All three lakes are on the A2 motorway.
