history

The place Blauhand was first mentioned around 1650 in connection with the residence of a settler on Ellenser Damm , which was "in the Blawenhant". Further settlers enlarged the village. The place is then recorded for the first time on a map from 1761.

From 1658 to 1659, the foreland located outside the dike at Blauhand was diked by a 2,485 meter long dike . The newly won Groden was 118  hectares and was named Blauhander Groden .

During the First World War , Fort Blauhand was built from 1915 to 1916 as an outpost of the Wilhelmshaven Fortress . However, it was no longer used militarily after the end of the First World War.

From mid-October 1939 the fort was prepared as a location for the land-based air defense of the German Navy . Initially, the Blauhand heavy flak battery with four 8.8 cm anti-aircraft guns was built around the existing facility of the former fort. At the end of 1940, the site was expanded to include a new battery for four 10.5 cm anti-aircraft guns. To this end, four high-level gun bunkers, a canteen building, a machine bunker, a control room and an ammunition bunker were built north of the fort, which was located around 200 meters north of the battery for safety reasons. The new facility was ready for use in early 1942. In 1952 the facility was demolished.
