The Blaupunkt coral goby ( Gobiodon histrio ) is a marine fish up to 3.5 cm in size . It lives widespread in the coral reefs of the Pacific and can be found from southern Japan via Melanesia , the Great Barrier Reef to Samoa at a depth of 2 to 15 meters.
features
The blunt-snouted, laterally slightly flattened fish have a characteristic blue / green-red pattern. There is no external difference between males and females. They produce a poisonous slime in their skin that is supposed to keep predators away.
Way of life
The Blaupunkt coral goby lives closely tied to hard corals of the genus Acropora , uses their branches for protection and usually spends the day motionless on an elevated position on an acropora stick. It feeds on zooplankton . The spawn is also deposited between the coral branches.
It is caught for keeping the aquarium and has not yet been reared. It requires water temperatures of 23 to 28 ° C.
