The Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland (BSVWNB) is a self-help organization by and for blind and visually impaired people in Eastern Austria . The seat of the association is in Vienna . The BSVWNB is the largest of seven national organizations of the Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired in Austria (BSVÖ).

history

The Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland was founded on September 20, 1947.

In 2013, the then "Regional Group Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland" renamed itself to the "Blind and Visually Impaired Association Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland".

The criterion for admission is a visual test of less than 30 percent. This is in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) definition of visual impairment and blindness . Until 2013, the organization was only open to blind and severely visually impaired people with a visual remainder of up to 10 percent.

The seat of the association is the Louis Braille House in Vienna's 14th district. It is named after the Frenchman Louis Braille , the inventor of the Braille script .

task

The BSVWNB offers social counseling , orientation and mobility training (O&M) and training in practical life skills (LPF). A resource shop is also operated in the association's headquarters, the Louis Braille House.

Further offers for those affected are the guide dog department and the professional assistance network. The Vocational Assistance Network project is funded by the Vienna Social Fund and the Ministry of Social Affairs Service. In the Louis Braille House, the BSVWNB also runs a project where it acts as an employer for blind and visually impaired people: a specialist massage institute.

The offer for blind and visually impaired people is largely financed by donations. The association carries the Austrian seal of approval for donations .

Publications

The magazine "Braille Report" is published every six months.
