Blobby Volley is a free computer - skill game in which two extraterrestrial gummy bears ( blobs ) in volleyball against each other.

Rules of the game

The rules of the game that are used in Blobby Volley largely correspond to the real volleyball rules from the year 2000. The game ends when one of the opponents scores 15 or more points and also has a two-point lead. Points can only be scored from the “impacting” blob. Consequently, each of the players tries to trick the other into making a mistake in order to serve himself and thus be able to score points. A player can make the following mistakes:

  • The ball falls to the ground in your own field
  • A blob hits the ball more than three times in a row (also applies to the service)

Since there is only one blob on each side of the field, in blobby volleyball, in contrast to real volleyball, it is quite permitted and often inevitable to touch the ball several times in a row. Another difference is that the side of the screen is an invisible wall that the ball bounces off. The movements of the game pieces are limited to a two-dimensional space.

Features

Network games are just as possible in Blobby Volley as games against a human opponent or the AI , and online games are even possible within a virtual private network (and the resulting online leagues). Furthermore, Blobby Volley offers a freely configurable keyboard and mouse control, the colors of the blobs and the background image can also be changed. In addition, Blobby Volley offers the option of choosing between three languages (German, English, French) as well as viewing its own game statistics (win, loss).

Mods

Quickgame is a modification for blobby volley, which increases the game speed significantly and shortens the game time to 10 points.

popularity

Blobby Volley can be described as one of the most popular freeware and free software games, considering the prevalence on the internet and especially the feedback from the players. This is probably not only due to the simple game principle, but also to the very small download size (compressed 0.78 MB), which made the game affordable for modem users. Due to the relatively short length of the game, it is also often used at LAN parties as a tournament game and in between. Therefore, Blobby Volley was included in the Lan leagues WWCL and NGL .
