Definitions
The term goes back to the American journalist Jeff Jarvis , who suggested the word in a competition that the American Tony Pierce announced to find a term for his blog entries summarized in a book, which he then published in 2002. Pierce then published two more blooks, How to blog and Stiff .
The term is also used for
- Books on blogs and for
- Serialized novels published on blogs. The respective chapters will be posted here as individual blog entries so that the reader the blog with an RSS - web feed subscribe tag or can also comment. This type of blook became popular in September 2005 when Tom Evslin started a detective story on hackoff.com.
According to a report in the English newspaper The Guardian , the word Blook was on a list of the Oxford English Dictionary's 2006 Word of the Year award .
Japan
The most famous Japanese blook is Train Man ( Densha Otoko ). Since its publication in 2004, over a million copies of the book have been sold in Japan, raising approximately $ 11 million. The book has been published in various languages (Chinese, Korean) and is being translated into more (Thai, Italian, English). A film, a soundtrack, a TV series, a game and other offshoots emerged from the blog.
With his blog about his domineering wife, 32-year-old Kazuma (Japanese 馬) from Fukuoka became one of the most successful bloggers in Japan. In addition to his blook oni-yome nikki (鬼 嫁 日記, “Demon Wife Diaries”, “The true story about my devil woman”), his blog served as a template for a TV sitcom (Oniyome Diary), a manga series, and a video game (Jitsuroku Oniyome Nikki, Sony PSP) and a film. Kazuma received $ 300,000 for the book rights alone.

In 2006, the US $ 10,000 Lulu Blooker Prize was the first award for blooks. The price is advertised by the book-on-demand provider Lulu.com .
