Blucom

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blucom was a technology developed and sold by Astra Platform Services (APS), a subsidiary of SES Astra , for the transmission of metadata via DVB (-S) and forwarding it from the receiving device to up to seven cell phones via Bluetooth . The data was displayed solely in a proprietary, chargeable browser on the handheld devices, which received a return channel capability ( Blucom interactive ) via the GSM short message or GPR service . In addition, content could also be accessed via the Internet.

Applications for Blucom were static program information and additional information, headlines (weather, lottery, sports) and interactive services such as remote voting , participation in quizzes and shopping. Music broadcasters should, for example , be able to transmit the option (for a fee) of the title currently being played as a ring tone or audio file.

The market launch in Germany took place in May 2006. From October 2006, a single compatible set-top box was available on the market, the BLU FOX-S from Humax . Astra tried from 2007 to market Blucom together with the introduction of the 2009 failed digital television platform Entavio .

Blucom was discontinued in 2009.
