Blues for Allah is the eighth studio album (thirteenth overall) by the band Grateful Dead .

history

The album was recorded at Bob Weir 's private recording studio between February 27 and May 7, 1975 , before being released on September 1, 1975. Like the previous album, it was released on its own label, Grateful Dead Records .

Before the release of this album, the band took a break of nearly two years during which no live performances or other releases took place. Even after this album, Grateful Dead only gave a few live performances in the San Francisco area .

After Mickey Hart last worked on the album American Beauty in 1970 and then left the band because his father and then manager of the band had embezzled funds, he has now returned to the band. This was particularly welcomed by the music magazine Rolling Stone , which named this album the best of the last up to American Beauty.

Jerry Garcia called it the album they had the most fun recording, but it was also one of the most musically daring.

The album was first released on CD in 1995 by the Arista Records label , before a revised version of the seven songs and six additional songs by Rhino Records for the box set Beyond Description (1973-1989) was released in 2004 , which was then released as a single CD in 2006 were.

The Music Never Stopped and Franklin's Tower were released as singles, each with Help On the Way on the B-side.

While Rolling Stone thought the album was the best since American Beauty, music journalist Robert Christgau turned it down. He described it as confused and headless and said that it would better suit bands like Yes and Strawbs .

successes

The album reached number 12 on the Billboard charts .

The Music Never Stopped reached number 81 in the singles chart.
