The Blume Bl 500 was a German touring aircraft that was manufactured by Walter Blume Leichtbau und Flugtechnik GmbH . Only two copies were produced.
history
Soon after aviation was re-licensed in the Federal Republic of Germany , Professor Walter Blume - Technical Director and Managing Director at Arado until 1945 - founded an engineering office for lightweight construction and aviation technology in Duisburg-Ruhrort . He could bring in or hire a larger number of previous employees. The development of the German replica documents for the Italian Piaggio P.149 D trainer aircraft , which went into series production at Focke-Wulf in Bremen , began. In addition, as a further development of the famous two-seat Arado Ar 79 touring aircraft, he designed a four-seat, all-metal touring aircraft called the Blume Bl 500.
When designing, the possibility of using three differently powerful motors was considered. The weakly motorized version (Bl 501) was not implemented. The first model aircraft (Bl 502) was built by Focke-Wulf. The machine with the registration D-EKUB completed its first flight in March 1957 in Bremen. The second prototype with the registration D-EGEM also flew for the first time in 1957. The BL 502 was approved on April 18, 1958. In 1958 and 1959, the Bl 503 was tested, which was approved on October 20, 1959 . In the spring of 1959 a sales price of 68,000.00 DM was given for the standard Bl 503. The relatively high price explained u. a. from the greatest expenditure on construction devices of the special wing construction. There was no series production.
construction
The BL 500 was designed as a four-seater cantilever all-metal low-wing aircraft with retractable nose wheel landing gear . It was more motorized than the Ar 79. In addition, it had an improved aerodynamic shape. A high surface quality was required for the thin laminar profile , which could not be achieved with the usual riveted spar- rib construction; Instead, it was decided to use glued sheet metal sheets without joints across the flight direction - using the metal gluing process with warm-curing Redux adhesives, which was first introduced at the Fokker company .
The planking was laid around the entire profile and pre-tensioned without interruption. Special gluing devices were required for this. The ailerons and the landing flaps were also manufactured using adhesive metal construction. The retractable landing gear was easy to retract by hand, as the nose wheel and the main landing gear were relieved of weight by springs. The main wheels protruded slightly from the wing to protect the airframe in case of belly landings. Two fuel tanks, each with a capacity of 70 liters, were housed in the middle section of the wing.

Received aircraft
After the D-EKUB was damaged by an accident in 1971, only the D-EGEM remained. It was restored at the Koblenz-Winningen airfield by Gomolzig Flugzeug und Maschinenbau GmbH. After the first taxi attempts, the first flight should take place in 2016.
