Boghos Bey Yusufian

Boghos Bey Yusufian , also Baghous Bey Youssefian ( Arabic بوغوص يوسفيان, Armenian Պողոս Յուսուֆյան , * 1775 in Smyrna ; † 1844 ) was a trade and foreign minister of Muhammad Ali Pasha .

Life

His parents were Mart'a and Hovsĕp, an Armenian trader from Kayseri who had settled in Smyrna. With his brother Bedros, Boghos Bey Yusufian was trained in the home and office of their uncle Arakel Abroyan, the dragoman at the British Consulate in Izmir . Arakel Abroyan passed the post of dragoman on to Boghos. Bedros Yusufian ran a trading company based in Trieste .

In the 1790s, Boghos Bey Yusufian was the customs officer for Murad Bey Muhammad in the Egyptian Rosette . Under Wali Muhammad Ali Pasha , El Kebir , he was Minister of Commerce and Foreign Affairs.
