Boží hrob

As Boží hrob (German: grave of God , even holy grave , grave chapel ) is one in an artificial cave -scale chapel in Velenice ( Wellnitz ) in northern Bohemia called. It is one of the most important ecclesiastical monuments in Liberecký kraj in the Czech Republic .

Between 1710 and 1711 the chapel was built by the Wellnitz resident Schille over several years. The colored reliefs carved out of the grown sandstone rock inside the chapel show the life and suffering of Christ from his birth to death on the cross.

After the original German population was expelled after 1945, the chapel fell into disrepair, and parts of the reliefs were also damaged by vandals . In 2002 the chapel was restored.

The facility is located directly on the connecting road from Velenice to Brniště . The interior of the chapel is not open to the public, but the reliefs can also be viewed from the outside through the attached protective grille.
