Robert A. "Bob" Brady (born April 7, 1945 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . He has been a member of the US House of Representatives since 1998 and currently represents the first congressional constituency of the state of Pennsylvania.

career

Brady worked as a carpenter after graduating from high school and was a senior carpenter before he entered parliament. a. active as a union official. Since 1986 he has been local chairman of the Democratic Party in Philadelphia. In 1998, his predecessor in Congress, Tom Foglietta , was appointed US ambassador to Italy and left the House of Representatives after 17 years. Brady had no internal party opponent in the primary elections and then won the traditionally democratic constituency in the by-election to Congress without much effort. As he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, including the one in 2016, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. His latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2019. His time as a congressman included the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan .

In 2007, Brady tried to be a candidate for Philadelphia mayor. In the primaries, however, he was defeated by Michael Nutter , who was also successful in the elections. As a MP, Brady still spends much of his time guiding the Philadelphia Democratic Party and mediating in disputes between unions and companies. Although he does not have a degree, he is a lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania .

In the meantime he was the only local chairman in the Democratic Party to hold a seat in Congress.
