Bob Davies (Author)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bob Davies (* 1951 ) is a Christian speaker, author and musician. For many years he was President of Exodus International and Executive Director of the North America section , where he was particularly concerned with "overcoming" homosexuality. In October 2001 he resigned from his post because of an alleged divine suggestion, with the unusual statement that there were no scandals about himself .

Life

Davies grew up in a Christian family in Vancouver , British Columbia , where he was a pianist, organist and sang as a baritone .

According to his own admission, he thought himself possibly homosexual from the age of twelve, which, however, meant a conflict with his faith. From June 1979 he sought help from the Exodus International group "Love In Action" near San Francisco . His planned three-month stay turned into a 22-year collaboration until 2001. In 2000, he was one of fifteen participants in the demonstration before the annual conference of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) against the condemnation of reparative therapy by the APA and for the law on therapy for homosexuals.

Davies tells of a vision he claims to have had on October 11, 1984, about the question of whether he should live as a single or get married in the future. In August 1985 he married a woman with whom he still lives in Seattle today. After resigning from Exodus International in 2002, he worked for the University Presbyterian Church in Seattle as a musician.

His books and essays have been translated into several languages and he has been quoted many times - even by opponents. Anita Worthen and Bob Davies worked together at New Hope Ministries in San Rafael , California. During this time, they wrote their book "Someone I Love Is Gay". Works by Bob Davies appear several times in bibliographies on religion and homosexuality.

In an essay, Seven Things I Wish Pro-Gays Would Admit, translated by the Young Christians Offensive as Seven Appeals to the Gay Movements , Davies shows some lines of conflict between the lesbian and gay movement and the ex -Gay move on. He takes a stand on the side of the ex-gay movement that he co-founded.
