Robert Gordon "Bob" Lee (born February 2, 1953 in Melton Mowbray ) is a former English football player .
Career
Lee came in July 1971 as a junior player to first division promoted Leicester City and signed his first professional contract in February 1972. He made his debut on March 18, 1972 against Derby County , but brought it only sporadically to inserts in the following two seasons. Only after a loan deal with the fourth division club Doncaster Rovers , when he got two hits on his return on Boxing Day 1974, was he regularly on the starting line-up as a strike partner of Frank Worthington and Chris Garland . In the 1975/76 season, the physically strong striker led the internal goalscorer list with 13 goals at the end of the season.
Then he moved in September 1976 for 200,000 pounds to league rivals AFC Sunderland , who was originally interested in a commitment from his teammate Worthington. Although Lee scored 13 goals again during the season, Sunderland rose to the Second Division . Because of his fluctuations in performance and his status as a star buyer, Lee discharged the frustration of disappointed Sunderland fans occasionally during the second division years, despite 33 goals in a total of 120 competitive games for Sunderland. After the successful recovery in the summer of 1980, in which Lee hardly played a role as a supplementary player, the striker remained in the second division through his move to the Bristol Rovers . With only two goals in 23 league appearances and relegation to the third division , his stay in Bristol ended after a year and he signed a contract with Carlisle United .
The 1981/82 season Lee concluded with Carlisle in second place in the Third Division, with eleven goals this season he had a decisive role in the rise of the Cumbrians to the Second Division. In the following second division season, the attacker played only a minor role under promotion coach Bob Stokoe . During the season, in the spring of 1983, he moved to Southampton FC , but was not used there until the end of the season. His last stop in English professional football was the fourth division club FC Darlington , which he left after five games without scoring in October 1983 to continue his career with Boston United in the Alliance Premier League , the highest amateur division in the country.
The highlight of the autumn of his career was the semi- final second leg of the FA Trophy 1984/85 against Altrincham , when he scored the decisive goal to 3-2 with his second goal of the game in the final minute. The subsequent final was lost 2-1 to Wealdstone in front of over 20,000 spectators at London's Wembley Stadium . In the 1985/86 season, Lee, who probably also gave a guest appearance in Hong Kong around 1983/1984 , ended his football career and took over the management of a pub in Loughborough .
