Bob Mendes

Bob Mendes , pseudonym of David Mendes, (born May 15, 1928 in Antwerp ) is a Belgian- Flemish crime writer Portuguese - Jewish origin. Mendes was the founder of the Genootschap van Vlaamse Misdaadauteurs (GVM), the Flemish association of crime writers , of which he is honorary chairman today.

Life

Mendes' family first came to Amsterdam through the diamond trade , and later to Antwerp, where Mendes grew up. During the Second World War , he decided to hide his Jewish first name David and to be called Bob . He later used the name Bob Mendes for his publications as a writer.

Mendes interrupted his studies to go to work during World War II. After eleven years of evening studies and self-study in accounting, tax law and economics, he earned a degree in accounting. In 1963 he was recognized as a full member of the Nationaal College van Accountants van België . Since the introduction of the protected title of accountant , IDAC, the Instituut van Accountants, added him to the list of “external accountants”.

He began his writing debut in 1984 with the publication of the volume of poetry Met rook schreven . In addition to poetic publications, Mendes also wrote short stories and novels.
