Bob van Oven

Bob van Oven (born August 19, 1923 in Djakarta ; † February 4, 2006 in Dortmund ) was a Dutch jazz musician ( double bass player , orchestra conductor).

Van Oven moved to the Netherlands with his parents when he was 10 years old; there he first learned the violin and soon switched to the double bass. From 1950 to 1964 he was a member of the Dutch Swing College Band . In 1964 he went to Australia for two years, where he played with Graeme Bell . Back in the Netherlands he played again for two years in the Dutch Swing College Band , from 1968 a. a. with the New Orleans Syncopators and 1973/74 with the Harbor Jazz Band . Then he was back with the Dutch Swing College Band , and again with the Harbor Jazz Band around 1988to play. Since 1993 van Oven lived in Germany and led his own band, the Black and Blue Masters , which mainly consisted of Dutch musicians. He was also involved in recordings by Oscar Klein ( Moonglow , 1995) and has occasionally appeared with the Ruhr River Jazz Band, the Classic Jazz Company and the Dixie Tramps .
