International Video Festival Bochum

The International Video Festival Bochum was founded by the Theater, Film and TV Studies student council in the winter semester 1990/91 at the Ruhr University Bochum, initially as the "Bochum Video Festival" and took place annually until 2011. Video installations, lectures and discussions on the subject of video art were offered. A so-called "VJ Contest" will also take place.

The short film Parking War was one of the winners of the 1st festival. In 1997 it was expanded to become an international festival. a. Guests from Canada, the USA, Japan and Russia presented their works. In the competition of the 13th festival, u. a. Works by Robert Arnold from Boston (USA), Akiko Nakamura from Tokyo (Japan), Dusan Gligorov from Moscow (CIS), Claudette Lemay from Montréal (Canada), as well as video makers from Croatia, Italy, Belgium, France and other countries.

The festival cooperated with changing international festivals , which have been presenting a selection of video works from their own program since 2000 . Guest festivals included North by Northwest / Liverpool , GB (2000), Ovarvídeo / Ovar , Portugal (2001), Eurovídeo / Málaga , Spain (2002), Vidéoformes / Clermont-Ferrand , France (2003). In 2002 the festival was expanded to include a VJ contest.

As part of the “Video Lounge”, which takes place several times a year in the “Theater unter Tage” of the Schauspielhaus Bochum , the Bochum Festival showed a selection of videos, mostly supplemented by an audiovisual performance followed by a party.

The festival was supported by the North Rhine-Westphalia Film Foundation .
