Natural resources of Kosovo
Kosovo is rich in natural resources . Heavy industry in Kosovo was expanded until the 1980s , so that there are not only numerous ore mines but also facilities for refining and processing. During the Milosevic - regime , there was little investment , in addition led the war in Kosovo massive destruction, so that the industrial facilities after the war had a total state of disrepair. So far, due to the uncertain legal situation, no significant revival of the mining industry has been achieved. Only the lignite mining shows increasing numbers due to the domestic demand . The UN estimates that investments in mining could create 35,000 jobs. According to these estimates, Kosovo could supply itself with its own raw materials for around 1000 years (assuming that consumption remained the same).
In Kosovo there are mainly deposits of lead , zinc , nickel and lignite. There is also silver , gold , cobalt , aluminum , iron , cadmium , magnesite and chromium .
