Bogusław Borkowski , (born November 5, 1922 in Poznan ; † March 15, 1979 ibid) was a Polish chemist ( analytical chemistry ).
He was the son of a lawyer and fled to Vienna after the German occupation in 1939, where he was arrested. He later worked as an analytical chemist and laboratory assistant in Poznan. It was only after the Second World War that he was able to start studying chemistry and in 1948 he completed his master's degree at the University of Poznan. In 1951 he received his doctorate, in 1956 private lecturer and 1966 associate professor.
He developed methods of extracting high-purity rare earths (especially lanthanides ) and methods for analyzing their degree of purity. For example, they were required for the electronics industry (yttrium oxide for color television tubes) and were used for spectroscopy.
