The Bonasila River is a 200 km long right tributary of the Yukon River in western Alaska .
The headwaters of the river are located southeast of Nortensund on the eastern flank of the Nulato Hills . Initially it flows south. After the confluence of the Hawk River and Stuyahok River , it turns to the east and after another 85 km at the level of Elkhorn Island flows into the Bonasila Slough , a right branch of the Yukon River. The estuary is 13 km south of Anvik and around 40 km northwest of Holy Cross settlement . The Bonasila River shows a strongly meandering behavior with numerous river bends and oxbow lakes. It drains an area of 3000 km².
The name of the river is probably derived from "buena silla" ("good seat"), an old Spanish name for the region, and was first documented in 1916 by RH Sargent of the United States Geological Survey .
