Bonifacy Miązek

Bonifacy Miązek (born March 27, 1935 in Kolonia Szczerbacka ; died October 17, 2018 in Vienna ) was a Polish Catholic priest, poet, literary critic and literary historian.

Education and life

Miązek attended the seminary in Sandomierz . After graduating in 1959, he made his debut in 1963 with poetry in the literary magazine Więź . In 1965 he did not return from a vacation trip to Austria, applied for political asylum there and lived in Vienna until his death. He received his doctorate from the University of Vienna in 1972 with a thesis on Kazimierz Wierzyński , where he taught Polish literary history at the Institute for Slavonic Studies. In 1984 he completed his habilitation with the thesis "Polish Literature 1863–1914. Representation and Analysis."

For his poetic work Miązek received the literature prize of the Wiadomości magazine twice , namely in 1967 and 1971. He was also awarded the prize of the Kościelski Foundation.
