Bonita is an American city in San Diego County in the US state of California . It has about 12,500 inhabitants (as of 2010). The city is located at the geographical coordinates of 32.67 ° north, 117.03 ° west. The metropolitan area has a size of 13.2 km² and is located on California State Route 54 .
After the Sweetwater Dam was built in 1888, a settlement developed in what is now Bonita.
