reception

The British magazine Blues & Soul selected Boo Hoo Hoo as album of the month January 2014 in its December 2013 / January 2014 issue.

The German magazine Rocks wrote about the album that a few seconds after starting the CD, you were overwhelmed by "a piquant, spicy and extremely agile female voice that could melt even the pack ice". What “some did not manage through lifelong voice training”, “this young lady,” who until recently earned her bread and butter as an actress, “apparently achieved early through an intensive program of cigarette butts and rock 'n' roll.” The production of the Albums sound “generally plain to spartan,” in some places they even seem “like a good demo,” but ultimately “the simplicity also adds to the charm.” The “solitary, devout mood of That'd Be the Day or Rise Up For example, ”recalled“ the unforgettable grace of Jeff Buckley . ”Especially with the latter song, Rennison caused“ goose bumps ”with“ her soulful presentation. ”In other numbers ( Devil on My Back, Work Song ) she was“ heavily distorted by one Fuzz guitar accompanied, ”so that No Sinner“ goes smoothly as a rock formation ”. The highlight is "certainly the title track, which is an exuberant mixture of classic R&B, soul and rockabilly". Here the singer "pulls out all the stops" but "at no point drifts into screaming", but uses "her gift of God in a consistently controlled manner."
