Booknis ( Danish : Bognæs , older Danish: Bøgenæs ) is a good and a settlement in the municipality and parish Waabs in the eastern part of the Schwansen peninsula in northern Schleswig-Holstein . Booknis marks the southeastern headland of Schwansen at the transition from Eckernförde Bay to the open Baltic Sea .

history

The place was first documented in 1285 as silua Bokænæs ( Latin : silvaforest ). In 1382 the form Bokenshøuede is found . The place name is made up of the Old Norse bōk for beech and Danish næs for a promontory (cf. old nes ). It means, for example , a promontory overgrown with beeches (see also Boknis in the communities of Ekenis and Boren ).

The area is largely characterized by deciduous forest. There is a larger campsite near Damp . The Bokenau (also: Schwastrumer Au ) runs north of it . The Booknis estate is located on site and dates back to a royal estate. Later it was owned by the bishops of Schleswig.

Today's manor house was rebuilt in 1930 by the architect Ernst Prinz on behalf of Friedrich Freiherr von Ahlefeldt-Dehn . In 2018 the manor house was badly damaged in a fire.
