Borderlands 3 is one of Gearbox Software developed Loot shooter in Cel-shading style and sets the events of Borderlands 2 on. The game was published by 2K Games , was released on September 13, 2019 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and on October 30, 2019 for Apple macOS . A Google Stadia port appeared in December 2019.
Gameplay
Borderlands 3 is the fifth game in the Borderlands universe. Players who play either alone or in groups of up to four people can choose a character from one of four classes and complete various main and side missions. These are given by non-player characters (NPCs) and on so-called bounty boards and promise the player not only financial rewards and equipment, but also experience points. If the player reaches a certain level, he can use these experience points to improve his character's abilities. At the start of the game there were four characters: Amara, the siren; Moze, the soldier; Zane, the agent; and FL4K, a robot and beastmaster . In contrast to previous Borderlands games, each character can unlock three unique skills in this part, but only one of them can be equipped at a time, with the exception of Zane. The agent has the option of doing without his grenade mod and equipping it with an additional ability.
The player gains access to a spaceship called Sanctuary III , which serves as a central point of contact between missions. Here the player can, among other things, store his equipment, purchase new items from vending machines or a golden chest, interact with crew members or head for other planets. However, a map of the game world allows the player to visit places already visited from anywhere by fast travel, which is also possible with a vehicle that can be reached via a catch-a-ride station.
In addition to completing missions, the main purpose of the game is killing opponents, exploring the open game world and collecting experience points and various items of equipment. The game character uses a variety of weapons, which are divided into the classes of assault rifles, submachine guns, pistols and revolvers, shotguns, sniper rifles and bazookas . They differ in values such as damage, reload speed or rarity. In contrast to many other shooter games, it is not possible to improve the weapons; rather, better and better material can and should be found by defeating bosses or by finding special boxes. In addition to the normal weapons, of which a maximum of four can be used alternately at once, the player is free to use grenades, protective shields serve as a buffer before the life energy sinks due to damage. In addition, two different artifacts that improve player attributes can be equipped.

Borderlands 3 takes place a few years after the second part, as well as Tales from the Borderlands , during which both Handsome Jack was killed and the Hyperion Corporation came to an end. The story begins on the planet Pandora , which is said to house chambers full of riches ( vaults ) that were once built by the alien civilization of the Eridians . The exploitation of Pandora for its natural resources and the vaults by various large corporations such as Hyperion have left their mark and there are only a few residents left there. Under the banner of the Children of the Vault ( German Children of the chamber ) rally the brothers Troy and Tyreen Calypso all bandit tribes of the planet with the aim to get to fill the power vacuum. They are the primary antagonists of the game and want to appropriate the treasures of the vaults on other planets .
Lilith , a siren who has meanwhile taken over the leadership of the rebel group Crimson Raiders , engages the player in the form of a Vaulthunter to stop the siblings. The troupe is complemented by well-known characters such as Claptrap , Tiny Tina , Brick , Patricia Tannis , Maya , Miss Mad Moxxi , Rhys Strongfork , Mordecai , Zer0 or Sir Alistair Hammerlock , none of which can be played by yourself. In the further course of the story, the player and his comrades-in-arms end up with Pandora and the planets Promethea , Athenas , Eden-6 and Nekrotafeyo , which are all in the same galaxy.
