Bordesholmer linden tree
The Bordesholm lime tree was an old winter lime tree ( Tilia cordata ) protected as a natural monument in Bordesholm in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in Schleswig-Holstein .
As one of the oldest and most famous trees in Schleswig-Holstein, it was a well-known sight.
Location and history
It was located in the historical center of Bordesholm near the monastery church of the former Bordesholm monastery and was freely accessible. She was up to the beginning of the 19th century the Gerichtslinde the Office Bordesholm .
The tree was first mentioned by Peter Dankwerth (son of the cartographer Caspar Danckwerth ). Peter Dankwerth was a convent student in Bordesholm around 1600 and writes in his chronicle that the vice-principal Andreas Grotheim (later senator in Kiel) planted the linden tree around 1580. So the tree was around 440 years old at the time of the radical cut in 2018. Until the 1970s, it was around 18 m high and the width of the crown was up to 30 m. The irregularly shaped trunk with a diameter of up to 2.30 m was surrounded by a bench for a long time.
The linden tree has been subject to ongoing tree care measures. Some branches were shortened to reduce the load, and three branches were secured with supports. Nevertheless, some branches showed clear signs of dying off due to a strong burnish fungal attack .
After one of the large branches broke off, the tree threatened to lose its balance and topple over. In October 2018 the tree was cut to a height of around two and a half meters. In July 2019, the tree was further damaged by a smoldering fire that was probably intentionally set. The final decision on how to proceed is still open. [outdated]
Others
The linden tree is part of the Bordesholm coat of arms . A plaque with the following text was attached to the linden tree in 1873:
Your mighty cathedral saw some
things, the lime tree rushing to the ground.
You have
divided joy and sorrow from many generations,
you did not see greater than the Holsten
elevation, than Germany
reborn to the kingdom. Say
the word to the grandchildren.
