In her works, Boriana Pertchinska moves in a field of tension between objectivity and abstraction. Shapes are broken down, dissolve, merge into new structures and remain as fleeting memories of a superficial objectivity. In a consciously simple language of forms in which the figurative is still clearly recognizable, the artist uses old master techniques to work out classic themes, the traditional content of which she wraps in a modern, contemporary guise through her individual interpretations. She is looking for the “symbolic patina” effect, which looks as if time has left its mark. The old masters' techniques not only serve her as a professional design tool, she also experiments with these techniques, develops them further and thus shapes a very idiosyncratic style that gives her work an unmistakable character.
