Borja Oubiña Meléndez (born May 17, 1982 in Vigo ) is a Spanish football player . The defensive midfielder has been under contract with Spanish club Celta Vigo since 2004 .
Career
Oubiña, who has successfully passed through the youth division of Celta Vigos since 1994 , made her debut in the Galician professional squad in 2004. Under coach Miguel Ángel Lotina he became one of the team's top performers. After the club's relegation in the 2006/07 season, Oubiña expressed a desire to leave the club. On August 31, 2007 he was awarded for one year to the English first division club Birmingham City . He made his debut for Birmingham on September 15 as a late substitute for Bolton Wanderers. On the next matchday he was in the starting line-up against Liverpool, but suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee after just 13 minutes and was therefore out for six months.
On February 9, his engagement at Birmingham was ended by mutual agreement and he returned to Spain to Celta Vigo .
Oubiña made two appearances for the Spanish national team in 2006 . He made his debut in the European Championship qualifier against Liechtenstein in September when he came on for David Albelda after 69 minutes . Two months later he was substituted on at half time in the friendly against Romania (final score 0-1).
