Borodino ( Russian Бородино́ ) is a village in Russia with about 60 inhabitants, which was first mentioned in 1601. It is located about 100 km west of Moscow and 12 km west of the city of Moshaisk on the right bank of the Moscow River . Administratively it belongs to the Moshaisk Raion in Moscow Oblast .
history
Here occurred on September 7, 1812 between the French army of Napoleon I . and the Russian under General Kutuzov , the Battle of Borodino . In October 1941 the Battle of Moscow took place here during the Second World War . Today the place is considered the Military History Museum Reserve Borodino , on the former battlefield there has been a monument to the memory of the battle of 1812 since 1839. The Redeemer Monastery of Borodino (Спасо-Бородинский монастырь) was founded in 1817 in the place, it has served as a nunnery again since 1992.
