Borys Piotr Budka (born March 11, 1978 in Czeladź ) is a Polish lawyer, doctor of economics, academic teacher, Member of the Sejm for the 7th, 8th and 9th electoral terms, 2015 Minister of Justice, from 2016 deputy chairman of the Citizens Platform , from 2019 Chairman of their parliamentary clubs, elected on January 25, 2020 with 78.77% of the vote as the successor to Grzegorz Schetyna as chairman of the Civic Platform.

In 2002 he graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the Silesian University in Katowice . He also completed legal training as a legal advisor , and in 2007 he began his professional activity as a legal advisor. In 2011 he received his doctorate from the Katowice University of Economics on the basis of the doctoral thesis "Employee qualifications in employment" to obtain a doctorate in economics with a focus on employment policy. Since then he has worked as an academic teacher in the legal department of the Faculty of Finance and Insurance of the Katowice University of Economics (formerly Katowice Economic Academy).

Political activity

In 2002 he was elected from the list of the Civic Platform, in 2006 as a candidate of the local committee and in 2010 again from the list of the Civic Platform as a member of the Zabrze City Council. From 2002 to 2005 he was deputy chairman of the city council, after which he was chairman for a year.

In the parliamentary elections in 2011, he received a parliamentary seat as a candidate from the list of the Civic Platform and received 10 260 votes in the Gliwice constituency . In 2014 he ran for the office of mayor of Gliwice and took 3rd place out of 6 candidates with 6,192 votes.

On April 30, 2015, Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz appointed him Minister of Justice in her government. He took up this post on May 4, 2015.

In the elections in the same year, he successfully ran for re-election to parliament with 37,761 votes. In the eighth term of the Sejm, he became a member of the Judiciary and Human Rights Committee and the Legislative Committee, as well as deputy chairman of the Special Committee on Changes to the Codifications. He was also appointed to the National Council for Justice by the Sejm .

On February 26, 2016, he was elected deputy chairman of the citizens' platform. In November 2016 he was appointed Minister of the Interior and Administration in the shadow cabinet of the Civic Platform.

In the elections in 2019, he successfully applied for parliamentary re-election on behalf of the citizens' coalition with 99,550 votes in the constituency of Katowice. On November 12, 2019, he was elected chairman of the parliamentary coalition parliamentary club. On January 25, 2020, he won the party chairman elections.
