Bosun Island ( English for boatswain island ; Norwegian Ystøy , outer island ) is an island off the Ingrid Christensen coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . It is located around 20 km west-northwest of Mount Caroline Mikkelsen in the Sandefjord Ice Bay .

Norwegian cartographers mapped them using aerial photographs from the Lars Christensen expedition in 1936/37 . Scientists from a campaign of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions led by Donald Franklin Styles (1916–1995) visited them several times between January and March 1968. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named them in 1968 after the boatmen who were involved in the deep sounding of the Sandefjord Ice Bay were involved.
