The Botanical Association of Berlin and Brandenburg, founded in 1859 e. V. is one of the oldest botanical associations in Germany and is based in Berlin .

history

The non-profit association was founded on June 15, 1859 as the Botanical Association of the Province of Brandenburg and the neighboring states in Eberswalde . One of the co-founders of the association was the botanist Paul Ascherson . Since 1991 the association has been known as the Botanical Association of Berlin and Brandenburg, founded in 1859. V. and counts personalities such as Heinz-Dieter Krausch , Michael Succow , Herbert Sukopp and Gerhard Wagenitz (†) among its honorary members.

tasks and activities

The goals of the association, which is mainly active in the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg , include the promotion of nature and environmental protection and landscape management . The association is dedicated to the exploration and documentation of plant occurrences in the association area, in particular the determination of occurrences of endangered species. For this purpose, the association offers an extensive annual program with excursions and specialist lectures and organizes the annual Brandenburg Botanical Conference . Since it was founded in 1859, the association has published the journal negotiations of the Botanical Association of Berlin and Brandenburg with scientific texts on botanical research.
