Coordinates: 33 ° 56 ′ S , 151 ° 12 ′ E Botany Bay City is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . Botany Bay City is part of the metropolis of Sydney , the capital of New South Wales. The area is 21.7 km² and has about 46,654 inhabitants.
The City of Botany Bay is bordered by the Central Business District, Sydney city center, to the north, and Botany Bay to the south . The area includes 13 boroughs: Banksmeadow, Botany, East Botany, Eastgardens, Eastlakes, Hillsdale, Mascot, Sydney Domestic Airport and parts of Daceyville, Kingsford, Matraville, Pagewood and Roseberry. The City Council is located in the Mascot district at the northwest end of the LGA.
Botany Bay was the site of the first British landing in Australia by James Cook on April 28, 1770 . The two headlands and the adjacent land form the small Botany Bay National Park , the south side of which is home to memorials of the landing and discovery.
Botany Bay is home to the heaped-up container port of Port Botany , an oil refinery and Australia's largest airport, Kingsford Smith International Airport . Among other things, the film Mad Max - Beyond the Thunder Dome was shot in the dunes on the south side .

The Council of the City of Botany Bay has seven members. Two members each are elected by the residents of the three wards (A, B and C ward), the chairman and mayor (mayor) are also elected by all residents of the LGA. The three electoral districts are determined independently of the districts.
