Botho Graef Prize

The Botho Graef Prize has been awarded to contemporary artists by the city of Jena every two years since 1992 and every three years since 1998 in recognition of the archaeologist and art historian Botho Graef (1857–1917) and his commitment to modern art . It is endowed with 5000 euros.

Previous winners:

  • 1992: Christa Flagner, Helga Regenstein, Heike Schaefer (call for tenders on the subject of "tolerances", for drawings, small sculptures and objects)
  • 1994: M + M (Martin De Matia, Marc Weis) (for artist couples, requirement: joint work)
  • 1996: Olaf Nicolai (competition for the design of an inner-city square)
  • 1998: Via Lewandowsky (competition on "Light")
  • 2001: Mariele Neudecker , Great Britain (international competition on the subject of "Imagination Romanticism")
  • 2004: Janet Cardiff , Canada (international competition on the subject of " Field of memory wind bulbs 1806", a contribution to the Franco-German Year)
  • 2008: Maria Vill and David Mannstein for the work "Intellektuelle Zweisamkeit" (Topic: The fateful encounter of Goethe and Schiller in the Jena "Miracle Year" 1794)
  • 2012: Annika founder for "Rejection or the Conquering of a View" (topic: upgrading the garden of Villa Rosenthal, cultural center)
  • 2015: Artist community Alex Rix and Renate Schäfer-Jökel for the artistic draft of the work "HERE ... and elsewhere" (subject: Romantikerhaus , Literature Museum )
