Botryobasidium bisporum is a mushroom species from the family of grape basidia relatives (Botryobasidiaceae). An anamorph of the species is not yet known.

features

Macroscopic features

Botryobasidium bisporum has yellowish to ocher-colored, spinel-like and thin fruiting bodies, which grow resupinate (i.e. completely adjacent) on their substrate and appear slightly net-like under the magnifying glass.

Microscopic features

As with all grape basidia , the hyphae structure of Botryobasidium bisporum is monomitic, i.e. it consists exclusively of generative hyphae that branch out at right angles. The basal hyphae are hyaline , mostly 8-11  µm wide and not encrusted. The subhymenial hyphae are hyaline and thin-walled. All hyphae are simply septate. The species has neither cystids nor buckles . The two-pore basidia of the species grow in nests, are 17–25 × 7–8.5 µm in size, are sub-cylindrically shaped and simply septate at the base. The spores are approximately spherical and mostly 8-10 × 7.5-10 µm in size. They are ornamented with long thorns, almost hyaline to amber and thin-walled.

distribution

The known distribution of Botryobasidium bisporum includes the island of Réunion . There she was found on the Plateau de Bébour .

ecology

Botryobasidium bisporum is a saprobiont that colonizes conifers and tree ferns . Known substrates include maritime pine ( Pinus pinaster ) and Cyathea glauca .
