Boulemane ( Arabic بولمان, Zentralatlas-Tamazight ⴱⵓⵍⵎⴰⵏ ) is a small town with around 8000 inhabitants in the province of the same name in the Fès-Meknes region in Morocco .
location
Boulemane is a good 100 km (driving distance) south of Fès in a valley basin about 1700 m high on the north side of the Middle Atlas . The city of Midelt is another 110 km south.
population
Most of the people of Boulemane are of Berber descent, but the colloquial language is mainly Moroccan Arabic .
economy
The city acts as a trade, craft, administrative, training and health center for the agricultural villages in the area. In the last decades of the 20th century, a certain tourist importance as a summer resort was added.
history
In the absence of written records, nothing is known about the city's history. The high valley may originally have served as summer pasture for the herds of cattle-breeding nomads ( transhumants ); a permanent settlement probably only emerged in the late Middle Ages.
Attractions
The place has no historically significant sights. In the old town center there are still sparse remains of decaying buildings made of rammed earth .
