Boval
The red wine family Bovale is common on the Italian island of Sardinia . There may be a relationship with the Spanish varieties Bobal or Monastrell .
There are two varieties:
- Bovale Grande (synonyms: Bova Murru, Bovale di Spagna, Bovale Mannu, Maraiola Maggiore, Mostaia, Nieddara, Nièddera , Nieddu Manu, Tintiglia, Tintilia , Tintillosa, Tintirella, Zinzillosa) is the more common of the two varieties and is mostly used for blends . Some of the synonyms reveal that the grape variety has a strong red color. Until 2006, the ampelographers assumed that thegrape variety known as Tintiliain the mainland Italian region of Molise was identical to the Bovale Grande. However, a DNA analysis proves the independence of the Tintilia del Molise grape variety. The DOC wine of the same name, Tintilia del Molise, is made from it.
- From the Bovale Sardo variety (synonyms: Bovale Piccolo, Bovale Piticco, Bovaleddo, Bovaleddu, Cadelanisca , Cardanissia, Carrixa, Moraiola Minore, Muristeddo, Muristellu , Nieddu Prunizza), for example, the DOC red wines Campidano di Terralba and Mandrolisai are made have a bitter character.
