Eric W. Bowers Coaches Limited , trading as Bowers or High Peak Buses (formerly Bowers Coaches ) is a bus company based in the High Peak district in Derbyshire in Great Britain .

Takeover by Centrebus

Bowers is a subsidiary of the Centrebus group ; before 2007 it was an independent family company. After the purchase by Centrebus in 2007, the company was renamed from Bowers Coaches to Bowers, but the legal entity of the company is still Eric W. Bowers Coaches Limited. After the takeover, most of the buses were repainted in orange and blue (colors of Centrebus), but they continue to operate under the Bowers name. The buses that went into operation on Route 27 in spring 2010 are called "Cheshire Connect operated by Centrebus".

Bus routes

The company operates bus services around the towns of Buxton , Glossop and New Mills , in the High Peak district and some surrounding areas such as the town of Marple in Stockport and Ashbourne in the Derbyshire Dales .

The high peak area is a tourist area. During the summer there is a large influx of visitors for whom the Bowers bus network offers connections between major cities such as Buxton, Glossop and Ashbourne and other destinations.

Due to the high demand, two new low-floor buses with additional seats were purchased in 2009. These low-emission buses ( Euro 5 standard) have a "go green" finish to promote the environmental compatibility of bus trips.

In Cheshire , Bowers works with other partners on a number of major bus routes, including the key Knutsford to Macclesfield route ( AstraZeneca plant ). As one of the first bus routes, passengers there receive information through satellite positioning .

Bus travel

The company was founded under the name Bowers Coaches ( coach = touring coach) and used this name until some time after the takeover by Centrebus , since the company, founded in 1952, began as a transport service or pick-up service. It was only later that the company expanded its driving activities to include bus routes, especially after bus traffic was deregulated in 1986.

Under Centrebus the decision was made that the transport service was no longer viable and did not fit into the field of activity. Therefore the name part "Coaches" was removed from the company name. Nevertheless, private trips can still be booked.
