The Box Canyon Dam is a dam on the Pend Oreille River in northeast Washington state .

Box Canyon Dam is in the Selkirk Mountains on the Pend Oreille River at km 55. Five kilometers south is the parish of Ione . The dam, which was built between 1952 and 1956, has a crown length of around 350 m. This is divided into the 76 m long power plant building, a 49 m long and 19 m high gravity dam of concrete and a 70 m long spillway located below the box Canyon Bridge is located.
Reservoir
The 88 km long reservoir extends upstream to the Albeni Falls Dam near Newport . 27 km downstream is the Boundary Dam . The target is 619 m . The catchment area covers 64,487 km².
power plant
The power plant operated by the Pend Oreille Public Utility District has four Kaplan turbines with an installed capacity of 90 MW . When the plant was modernized, which was completed in 2015, the old turbines were replaced with new ones. In contrast to the old ones, the impellers of the new turbines have 4 instead of 5 blades. The installed capacity increased from 72 MW to 90 MW. The power plant is operated as a run-of-river power plant. The fall height is 14 m.
