Boy Cornils (born March 29, 1938 in Bremen ) is a German chemist.

Life

Cornils studied chemistry from 1957 at the Technical University of Hanover , where he obtained his doctorate in technical chemistry in 1964 under Günther Schiemann on the subject of the effect of chlorine trifluoride on ethylene in the gas phase . He initially stayed at the University of Hanover, where he supervised a research group. In 1967 he switched to Ruhrchemie in Oberhausen, where he worked on the development of hydroformylation with water-soluble catalysts . Parallel to his work as head of research at Ruhrchemie, he was honorary professor at the Ruhr University in Bochum from 1983 . In 1984 he moved to Hoechst as head of research in the organic chemicals division . From 1988 to 1998 he was head of the chemicals division. Since his retirement, Cornils has been active as an author and editor of specialist books and journals.

In 2013 he was awarded the Otto Roelen Medal by DECHEMA .
