Bridge Figures (Volkach)
In the municipality of Volkach , a town in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen , there are several small bridges over the Volkachbach . Some of them are decorated with bridge figures. All show the patron saint of the bridges, St. Nepomuk .
Am Brückenmühlbach (Volkach)
One figure is located north of the hospital, the sandstone figure of St. Nepomuk stands in the middle of the bridge, its base interrupting the railing . The year 1717 is carved on the figure. The Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments lists it as a monument with the number D-6-75-174-101.
Josef-Wächter-Strasse (Volkach)
At the exit of the city center, directly at the foot of the Gaibach gate tower , there is another sandstone bridge figure. The associated bridge is a few meters away. The construction period can be set to the 18th century. An inscription in the base indicates that the figure was renovated in 2002. The figure was registered by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments as a monument D-6-75-174-154.
Mayor-Erhard-Strasse (Obervolkach)
In Obervolkach, a round arch bridge leads to four yokes with brick abutments over the Volkach. A saint figure on the bridge can also be assigned to the 18th century. It is run by the State Office for Monument Preservation together with the bridge as a monument D-6-75-174-290.
Marketplace / Main Bridge (Volkach)
Until 1892 there was another statue of Nepomuk on the market square, which was moved there when the Main Bridge was built. By blowing up the bridge, reconstruction and new construction in 2009, it was probably lost. Today a "Nepomuk whirlpool" adorns the bridge. The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation carries the Nepomuk figure together with the market fountain under the number D-6-75-174-81.
