Brühl 13-15 was a historic house from 1622 in the street Brühl in Gotha , Thuringia . Due to its urban location, it shaped the north-western access to the old town and has been a listed building since 1988 .

History and structure

The house was built in 1622 after a dendrochronological study by the building historians Thomas Schulze and Udo Hopf. It was a two-storey renaissance building with a side passage in the stone ground floor and a cantilevered half-timbered storey above. The sleepers and fillers were typical of the time and a. decorated with ship throats . The windows were linked in groups of two and three.

In the middle of the 19th century they were renewed and given classical clothing. At the same time, the framework was plastered , except for the beams . Around 1910 the house was completely rebuilt and expanded by adding an Art Nouveau staircase . In the list of monuments of the Gotha district council of September 1, 1988, the building was identified as an individual monument.

In 2008, the city of Gotha had the architect Lolita Liening draw up a redevelopment plan according to which three “spacious modern apartments” and a commercial unit on the ground floor were to be accommodated on the upper floors. After the outbuildings were demolished, the garden was to be used as open space close to the apartment and for parking spaces. The city of Gotha acquired the property in 2009, but did not implement the planning despite the possibility of financing from the urban development program and rental income. Instead, the building continued to deteriorate.

On August 30, 2013, the city-owned construction company Gotha GmbH commissioned with the management of an Erfurt building surveyor's office with a renewed report stating: "The buildings are intended for demolition!" Positive findings about the building structure, which was still 80% intact at the time, and about renovation options were not intended and were therefore not made.

In November 2013, Mayor Knut Kreuch presented plans to demolish both buildings together with the also listed buildings Brühl 9-11 and to rebuild the property. On May 14, 2014, the building was completely demolished.
