The Brabham BT19 was a Formula 1 - racing cars , which in 1966 Brabham was built. With this type of racing car, Jack Brabham secured the Formula 1 world championship title this year .

The BT19 was developed by Ron Tauranac at the end of 1965 to accommodate the 16-valve V8 engine from Climax . The car had a tubular space frame , which Tauranac reinforced with oval tubes in the cockpit area. Both the front and rear suspensions were on the outside and Brabham used 15-inch wheels for the first time. The Hewland HD gearbox was replaced by the more robust DG from the same supplier in the course of the year. At the beginning of 1966 the car was converted to accommodate the 3-liter Repco engine.

The BT19 is a historically relevant racing vehicle. At the French Grand Prix , Brabham won the first time in a BT19 and thus for the first time a racing driver won a Grand Prix in a car that bore his own name. In 1966, Brabham won four races in a row with the car. The success in France was followed by victories in Great Britain , the Netherlands and Germany . In 1966, the team won both driver and designer titles with this vehicle.

In 1967 this type was only used three times in the works team; Brabham finished second in the Dutch Grand Prix . From the middle of the season, Brabham competed in the races with the successor model, the BT20 . The BT19 were sold to private drivers.
