Brachyistius frenatus is a fish from the surf perchfamily(Embiotocidae). It lives on the coasts of the eastern Pacific from British Columbia to central Baja California and the island of Guadalupe . The fish live in the kelp forests , never move far from them and stay mainly in shallow water up to a depth of 30 meters. They feed on small crustaceans, which they mainly pick from seaweed. They also clean other fish and eat their parasites in the process . In summer they form large schools.
