The Brachyopsinae ( Syn .: Tilesininae Jordan & Starks, 1904 ) are a subfamily of marine fish from the family of armored bulls (Agonidae). The nine species of Brachyopsinae all occur in the North Pacific.

features

Panzerropen of the subfamily Brachyopsinae are 16 to 36 cm long. They differ from other subfamilies of the armored slugs by the non-enlarged rostral bone at the tip of the snout, a nasal bone that never protrudes over the upper jaw, the concave upper edge of the orbit and gill membranes that have not grown together at the isthmus (throat). The mouth is below. The lower jaw protrudes over the upper jaw. The back is never built high behind the dorsal fin.

Ethmoid bone and preventer have contact with one another, lacrimal bone and nasal bone as well as metapterygoid and entopterygoid, on the other hand, do not or only rarely have contact . The free front end of the nasal bone is smooth and without an anterior protrusion. They have four basal bones at the base of the pelvic fins with no pores between them. The first fin-bearer (pterygiophor) of the dorsal fin carries a sting ray. There is an epurale (an elongated, free-standing bone) in the tail fin skeleton. The basin has a keel.
