The Brackstedter Mühle is a former watermill in the Brackstedt district of the city of Wolfsburg in Lower Saxony . Her undershot millwheel was driven by the Little Aller . Today the mill is a restaurant and a station on the Lower Saxony Mill Road . It is located north of Brackstedt outside the village, directly on the border with the municipality of Jembke in the district of Gifhorn .

history

A first mill on the Kleine Aller in the area of today's mill is first mentioned in 1434; Little is known about the mill from this period. The first mentions of millers come from 1670 with Claus Hans and 1679 with Peter Möller. The Vorsfelde office warned the miller Henning Gaden in 1748 because he picked up the grain from his guests and delivered flour. This represented an overreach compared to other mills. That is why the Vorsfeld office miller had the horses of the Brackstedter mill confiscated in 1750 . In 1825 the miller Johann Heinrich Müller rebuilt the house of the mill and parts of the mill complex.

Today's, modernized mill building

At the beginning of the 20th century, the mill worked with one grinding and one shot passage . In 1936 it was sold on to a farmer who stopped making flour. In 1964, he also stopped milling grain. As early as 1910 an inn was set up at the mill. After the cessation of the mill in the mid-1960s, the mill building was redesigned for catering purposes, which it has served since then. In the course of time it was expanded into today's hotel and restaurant with a hall . During the redesign, the water wheel and mill technology were retained. In 2003 the mill wheel was partially renovated.
